  • Egta deliver insights on the future of television and radio advertising

    29 January 2014

Digital, social, mobile and connected: television and radio are the two media that offer the highest reach and efficiency by delivering quality content across an ever-wider variety of consumer touchpoints.

An article by Franz Prenner, President of egta, with the support of the association’s Board of Directors.

Debate around the audiovisual advertising industry in 2013 was punctuated by the language of digital convergence, cross-platform measurement, efficiency, real-time bidding and programmatic buying, conversations that will continue into 2014 and beyond. The global crisis of 2008 permanently transformed our industry. As we move on, it is clearly as important today as it ...

  • Tips and tricks to win emerging market consumers using mobile

    28 January 2014

Vasileios Tziokas, marketing manager, Upstream discusses the key formula to connect with emerging market consumers using mobile.

According to the IAB, Latin America, Middle-East, Africa and Asia-Pacific have seen between 60-70% year on year uplift in mobile ad revenues. To put this into context, global mobile connections are soaring and by 2017, we will see 1.6bn new connections. With these figures front of mind, it’s not hard to understand why we are also seeing such an increase in mobile advertising investment and revenues in emerging markets.

The developing world will account for the majority of new mobile connections and countries, ...

  • Balancing long and short-term marketing

    22 January 2014

As an industry we risk damaging our ability to deliver overall business effects, by our obsession with optimising towards short-term rational response metrics, argues company director of Agenda21, Lyndsey Best.

In June, the IPA released a report entitled, ‘The Long and Short of It’ which looks back over all the entries into their Effectiveness awards over the past ten years, to identify winning trends for effective campaigns. It looks into the strength of emotional vs rational campaigns, niche targeting vs broadcast and the strengths of each individual media channel at helping drive sales, price stability and ultimately profit.

    This makes ...

  • Taking a walk in the dark with click through rates

    20 January 2014

Ad technology today makes it possible for advertisers to get unprecedented visibility into the ads they run (site, placement, audience, frequency etc) and the action they elicit (pages viewed, form filled in, info requested etc). Yet, a recent survey we conducted with BSB Media as part of this year’s International Media Image Survey found that, in fact, the majority of CMOs struggle to get the transparency and measurability they want out of digital advertising. It all leads me to wonder, with all the technology available, are advertisers still unintentionally keeping themselves in the dark?

I would say yes, especially when ...

  • Embrace new formats as advertising bites back

    17 January 2014

While many predicted advertising budgets would trickle along in line with the fluctuations of consumer spend, the industry has actually been surprisingly buoyant with the IPA Bellwether report predicting the UK advertising market will have its best year since the pre-recession days of 2008.

Much of this year’s predicted 5.4% growth will come from mobile, though with key events such as the World Cup taking place, we’d also expect TV to have a strong year. However, it’s video formats and digital outdoor which will be the key winners.

Digital out of home formats are key to the growth of the ...

  • Be more Oreo: How brands can emerge victorious from this year’s Super Bowl

    14 January 2014

Is it possible to dunk in the dark? I would say yes! In my home, we felt compelled to try this new form of extreme dunking during last year’s Super Bowl. I’m sure we weren’t the only ones, as 15,000 people retweeted Oreo’s original post on Twitter following a blackout during the big game.

As you may recall, one of the most memorable aspects of Super Bowl XLVII last year between the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens occurred not on the field, but off of it. Shortly after Beyonce and the rest of Destiny’s Child rocked the stage at ...

  • How brands can create better customer brand loyalty

    13 January 2014

In an ever-competitive market where consumers are now shopping smarter, brand loyalty is more important than ever. With the ability to price-compare every purchase, brands need to ensure that their customers stay loyal in order to keep profits ticking over. The key to long-term loyalty is to understand the changing life-stages.

Brands seeking to build long-term customer loyalty need to understand how people moving through different life stages will have changing needs, influences and values - and how these will affect their relationship with the brand itself and the purchase decisions they make.

The key is to focus on what ...

    The final day.

As I utter the immortal words of "leaving Las Vegas", I can finally reflect upon the CES 2014 from an agency perspective and how I think all this cool stuff is going to impact on my world.

  • CES 2014: Las Vegas technology event - day three

    09 January 2014

Euan Jarvie, EMEA COO at MediaCom gives us the low-down on what's happening at this year's CES technology event in Las Vegas.

Day three – let’s get personal.

The overarching impression I had today from walking the technology floor of the main hall at CES was just how many new TVs there appear to be.

There is 4K, there is 8K there is OLED, there are curved and there are flat ones. You’ve gotta love a big TV and there are plenty of them here. However, last year CES was all about the new 4K and 3D TVs and manufacturers ...
