    According to a study by the European Commission, less than 10 per cent of EU citizens use their mobile phone abroad in the same way they do at home. A quarter switch their phone off on landing in a foreign country and just under half (47 per cent) refuse to use mobile communications during their trip. It’s no exaggeration to say that – for the mobile channel at least – roaming fees have created a ‘mobile black hole’ that travellers disappear into as their plane hits the runway.
